In session 2, we will create the required horizontal and vertical alignments for our project.  You’ll see how to take advantage of the built-in design standards along with how to make project-specific adjustments to the horizontal and vertical to meet and match existing conditions. We will create new profile grade lines to correct some roadway vertical design issues and facilitate the raising of two existing bridges. The session will also cover the creation of alignments for right-of-way.

In session 3, the focus will be on corridor modeling.  Assuming some basic knowledge of templates, we will cover how to set up the corridor for a divided roadway. In the session, you will learn how to define and apply superelevation, define and model variable side slopes, and as well as construct turn lanes and tapers. This session will provide you with the practical tools and workflows to design, analyze, and model a typical widening project on a four-lane divided highway.

In session 4, you will learn about the tools and techniques needed to design and model driveways and intersections. We will lay out the horizontal geometry and define elevations. Using the 3D model, we will evaluate and modify the design, confirming that the proposed intersection meets and matches the existing conditions while adhering to standards.

In session 5, we will continue to focus on refining the design, by modeling side slopes at bridge abutments. You will learn how to define vertical elevations of 2D horizontal linework, as well as use linear templates and end conditions to tie down slopes. Working between the multiple views of OpenRoads Designer, you will gain insight on viewing, analyzing, and modifying design elements, helping you incorporate abutments into your project design models.

Session 6 focuses on the computation and tabulation of cut and fill.  We will cover how to calculate earthwork using a couple of methods, including prismoidal and end-area volume.  You will learn how to use the 3D modeling technology of OpenRoads Designer to compute, summarize, and view cut and fill areas on the project, maximizing the value of your design model.  In addition to calculating earthwork, we will look at summary and analysis capabilities, including the creation of a mass-haul diagram, cross-section volume annotation, and reporting tools.

During session 7, you will learn how to create, annotate, and publish construction drawings. We will focus on creating cross-sections and plan/profile sheets. This session will include how to set up sheet boundaries, generate the sheet sets, and annotate them.  You will learn how to use the dynamic modeling technology of OpenRoads Designer to your advantage, creating live views of the design model that includes annotation.

Session 8 will conclude the series with a look at delivering the project in digital formats. The behavior of a building structure in response to an earthquake or wind, including the distribution of the lateral forces to the lateral force resisting elements such as moment frames, braced frames or shear walls is heavily dependent upon the nature, extent and stiffness of the floor and roof diaphragms. It is important that the building model used in the analysis and design of a building accurately captures the effects of these diaphragms.
While some building codes address diaphragms, determining the proper way to perform the analyses can be challenging. This webinar will review the types of diaphragms identified by the Building Codes and practical recommendations on the appropriate modeling of those diaphragms.

Pore pressures can have a large impact on soil behavior, so it is important to define your groundwater definition realistically in order to calculate the proper pore pressure distribution. This can be done in various ways – assume a hydrostatic pressure using phreatic levels or use a groundwater flow calculation.
